Asdee Community Development
Asdee Community Development Association was formed in 2017 to nurture and harness the community spirit and pride in our village.
Current committee members are: Chairperson – John Kennedy, Vice Chairperson – Donie O’Keeffe, Secretary – Mary Mulvihill, Vice Secretary – Fiona Enright, Treasurer – Lorraine McElligott, Vice Treasurer – Denise Lynch, PRO – Eoin Kennedy.
The purpose of our group is to provide a forum to facilitate community-driven initiatives, open discussion, and a platform for the community to share their ideas.
At the end of 2019, we developed an ambitious 5-year Community Plan in conjunction with FLAG & Bord Iascaigh Mhara, with a huge buy-in from every household in the area.
The plan took suggestions and ideas from National School students right up to our older citizens. These ideas were debated over three community meetings and compiled into a final plan document.
The launch of the plan was delayed due to the coronavirus and took place on the 13th of August 2020, on the grounds of Asdee National School.

The launch was a huge success, with an incredible amount of work put in by our committee and the wider community to ensure everyone was safe and that every person in Asdee received a copy of the plan.
Our aim is to help make Asdee a more attractive and sustainable place to live & work for people of all ages. The introduction of Fibre Broadband has already facilitated people to work from home.
Socially, great strides have been made since our inception, with numerous night classes in our Community Centre, such as dancing, keep-fit, yoga, and Operation Transformation.
Our efforts for an inclusive plan saw us awarded a Gold International Facilitation Award in 2021. Below is a photo of some of the community celebrating the success.
Our many volunteers have given the village a beautiful facelift, with house painting and an abundance of flowers making a huge impact.
A huge boost to the community spirit has been the introduction of a Live Crib in the village at Christmas, as well as a Christmas Fair & the lighting ceremony of a large Christmas Tree & village lights.

Among our other achievements to date have been the upgrade of the Shannon Way Trail, footpaths, signage, bottle bank, road markings, new speed signs, street lighting, benches, flowers planted, and much more.
The biggest facelift has been the renovation of the village grotto, totally redesigned, with the creation of a new public space, with bike racks, picnic bench, water pump, information boards, planters and children’s play boards. The new section of land was kindly donated by Tom Kennedy.

We also provide help & services to anyone we can in the community, whether it be for funerals, parties, or other events.
None of this would be possible without the help and support of the wider community, who we are proud to represent in all we do.
New members are always welcome. It is a great social outlet, with plenty of laughs and a little bit of work too.
We also take immense pride in the reach our website has had since going live in September 2019, reaching over 65 countries (highlighted in green), with over 100,000 hits in the 3 years since it started.
The huge pride of place by the people of Asdee & our diaspora around the world is clear to see. As they say…
Níl aon tinteán mar do thinteán féin.
