Played in very windy conditions this afternoon Asdee Rovers and the home side Listowel Celtic produced a very good game of football at Pat Kennedy Park in Listowel this afternoon.

Listowel Celtic with the wind advantage pressed Asdee back early on and were unlucky after Seamus O Sullivan conceded a free just outside the penalty area, the free kick hit the crossbar and the follow up came back off the post as Asdee managed to scramble it clear. Listowel Celtic were finding it hard to break down a very solid Asdee defence but Just before half time Conor O Brien had a shot saved by Kenneth Tydings for a corner kick that was cleared to safety as the half time whistle went. Asdee were limited to very few chances with the strong gale blowing down the pitch.

Asdee started the second half in whirlwind fashion and scored a great goal two minutes into the second half. Seamus O Sullivan found a great pass to Ian Mannix who fired a bullet of a shot past Marius Jurca into the top corner for the breakthrough goal. Asdee Rovers continued to work hard and press up on the Listowel defence , Joe lynch pounced on a pass by the Listowel keeper and played it to Liam Mulvihill with the keeper out of goals Liam slotted it to the empty net on forty nine minutes to double the away teams lead.

Listowel then came more into the game following this bad start to the second half and managed a lot of promising attacks which the Asdee defence marshalled by Cillian Beasley , Joe O Brien , David Lynch and John Horgan had to work hard to repel.

Asdee should have wrapped it all up after a good move on seventy minutes saw Joe Lynch breakthrough the Listowel defence and go one on one with the keeper, as Lynch pulled the trigger keeper Jurca spread himself and made a very good save to keep the score at two nil.

With ten minutes Liam Mulvihill smashed a great shot onto the Listowel Celtic Crossbar with the keeper beaten, and Asdee Rovers ran down the clock for a great and deserved win on the road.

The Listowel Celtic pitch was in great condition and the referee Willie Gorman was excellent throughout keeping the game running smoothly.

Overall both sides played good football and had many good young players on view meaning the future looks bright for both clubs.
