We were delighted to be a part of UCD’s GeoWestCoast project, which saw them working with Asdee, Cromane & Mulranny. The below video & StoryMap are the result of the work they carried out. A special thanks to Dr Karen Keaveney for co-ordinating the project.
The focus of the GeoWestCoast project was to evaluate cutting-edge Geodesign workshops that were held in three of Ireland’s West Coast communities between 2015 and 2019. These exercises in community planning identified resources and mapped local development trajectories.

The approach was embraced by communities who were determined to deal with structural challenges including rural decline; depopulation, especially amongst young people; climate and environmental change.
This is a short film made with the Asdee community in Co. Kerry, reflecting on their experiences of creating a community plan using geodesign. These experiences exemplify community-led local development.
The film was commissioned by the GeoWestCoast project (Film by Niall Foley, 2022). Funded by the Irish Research Council (IRC) New Foundations Scheme. Project led by Dr Karen Keaveney, UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science (https://www.ucd.ie/agfood/) & UCD Centre for Irish Towns (https://www.ucd.ie/cfit/).
