We were delighted to receive funding from Lawpro (Local Authority Waters Programme) to create a Digital Heritage Project for Heritage Week, August 12th to 20th. Water Heritage Day is today, Sunday, August 20th.
Our project explored the history of Asdee, from the first recorded settlers along the river & how Asdee got its name. This comes from research carried out by DCU. We also detailed the wildlife found on Littor Strand.
We want to thank Colum Walsh from Lawpro for doing a kick sample to determine the water quality in our river. He also described the role that various insects play in the food chain & the life of the river.
We have put together this 7-minute video, we hope it gives an appreciation of our history & the wildlife that depend on our river to survive. We played it during our community meeting on Wednesday evening & discussed the potential to develop local knowledge of our river & biodiversity.
